With summer camp right around the corner, I asked Lead Counselor Emily Fishel to share with us why she’s excited about another fun summer at St. Paul’s.
Spring is here, which means that we are getting that much closer to Summer Camp 2017! As a “lifer” at St. Paul’s Summer Camp, also known as someone who has gone from being a camper, to a volunteer, to a General Counselor, and now to a Lead Counselor, I am excited about another fun-filled Summer at St. Paul’s.
Things definitely look a little different around here than they were when I began as a camper in 2002, but that is a huge part of what makes it so great. Over time, I’ve had the privilege of getting to see St. Paul’s Summer Camp grow and flourish with new programs, new leadership, new facilities, all while maintaining the same fun-filled community that many campers and staff have come to know and love.
As a Lead Counselor this year, my job is definitely going to be different, and I couldn’t be more excited to take on the challenge. For the past few years, I’ve been helping out with an eclectic mix of arts and specialty camps: drama, pottery, dance, hiking, cooking, and even spa camp. Just when I thought I had done it all, we stepped up our game even more with the addition of themed camps! Ones that I’m looking forward to especially are: Olympics in week one, Survivor in week four, and Water, Water Everywhere in week five – with the help of our new Nature Center, and of course, the revival of Circus Camp in week 6 (something I did back in the day as a camper!).
These are just a few possibilities for you or your camper – St. Paul’s has themed, sports, AND specialty offerings this summer. With a refreshed approach and tons of new energy and opportunities coming to campus, I’m optimistic that this will be one of the best summers yet.
